Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is an information management system which integrates data, processes, business systems and people.

At Ferranti, we identified this as a need for the business as it enables us to control the configuration baseline from the outset and then ensures controlled, consistent change across the company.  Almost like creating a recipe, we get it right and then we can re-use it time and time again.

The baseline ensures that we have one single point of truth for how we do things, there is no room for ambiguity, there will be less duplication of effort, less mistakes and ultimately hugely beneficial to our customer.

We are some way into rolling out a PLM system within the business, having trialed it with one of our project teams, many other teams now want to be included. It is expected that there will be a gradual expansion to include more and more projects as time goes on.

“We are working on PLM from a design point of view initially but eventually we will have to determine how we transition into production”, says project leader Chris Rattray.

We look forward to providing further updates to the project as PLM is implemented.
